Character Certificate Online
Nowadays the state government has given us the privilege to get the character certificate online also. The state government has set up the online portals for the same. All the citizens are eligible to apply for a character certificate online.
You have to make the payment online while applying for it. The government issues the certificate after investigating properly. This process may take up to 12 working days. After that, you can download your certificate from their online portal.
Here are the steps on how to apply for the character certificate online.
- Open the citizen portal and login into your respective state.
- Select the new user and register yourself.
- Fill all the required details accurately.
- In citizen portal login to your account.
- Select the character certificate request under the citizen service section
- Fill all the required detail and upload your image which matches to your any of the government-issued ID.
- After this, submit your application online.
- Then after approximately 15 days you can check the same portal and download your certificate.Â

Police Clearance Certificate
It is an official document which is issued by the police. It testifies the background of a person to be liberated from any criminal record. Therefore, it is known as a police character certificate. The involvement of a person in any of the pending cases, arrests, inclusion in any legal offence or Association with a criminal group are considered as criminal records.
Police character certificate is used in the following cases:
- If you are applying for a visa for a long stay or a foreign trip, police character certificate is required to prove that you have a crime-free background.
- While applying for a job.
How to Apply PCC
| Step 1 | Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. (Click on “Register Now” link on the Home Page). |
| Step 2 | Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the Login ID created in Step 1. |
| Step 3 | Click “Apply for Police Clearance Certificate” link. |
| Step 4 | Fill in the required details in the form and submit. |
| Step 5 | Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment. Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all PSK/POPSK/PO. Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes: Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa) Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) Associate Banks and Other Banks) SBI Bank Challan |
| Step 6 | Click the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number. Note: Carrying printout of Application Receipt is no longer required. An SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment during your visit to Passport Office. |
| Step 7 | Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents. |
